This was an email,
which I deceided to make into a webpage. It is dedicated to a dear friend,
whose privacy I will protect by merely referring to him by the Cherokee
name by which I know him... Tamili. As a member
of my on-line Cherokee language study group, he took it upon himself
to purchase and send me book which is currently under discussion and
dissection in our group, called "thirteen moons." The
book deals with the Indian Removal act of 1838 and the Cherokee "Trail
of Tears" ... which is to the Cherokee as the "Holocaust" is to the
Jews, with Andrew Jackson in place of Hitler. Here is the cover of the

 I have not had a
chance to read much of it yet, and in fact, since my layoff from Washington
University in April 2005, I have not read a singe book (which is not
like me at all, having read about 1 book every week or two since I was
11 years old!). Also, in May of 2006, I had an embolism in my left eye
and lost partial vision, so its even harder to read now. However...
I hope to deal with these problems read this book.... and other books
(yet again). Here is the first page of the book...
 People
clamed that in Old Europe our holdings "...would have been
enough land to make a minor country."
However, reading
that is the EASY part! The book comes with
a companion book, which is a treasure... it is the translation of the
novel into the Cherokee language, translated by Myrtle Driver
Johnson. Here is the cover of her companion book ...
 The companion
book is written entirely in Cherokee. However, the left-hand pages are
written in the Cherokee Syllabary, and the right-hand pages are written
in the Roman alphabet. Here is a sample of page one, a translation of
the above "page 1" but... entirely in the Cherokee written language...

 Anyway...
I just wanted to share this with my family, friends and acquaintances.
I hope you do not find it too boring. I also wish to express my deepest
gratitude to Tamili for going out of his way and providing me with this
invaluable gift. Oh! ...and to make it even MORE valuable, I discovered
that the book is personally autographed by the translator, Myrtle Driver
Johnson. AND her autograph is both in English AND Tsalagi!
(Cherokee). (And of course, here is a picture of that page too... you
know "visual" I can be!) ...
 Anyway
... I hope you may have found this of interest. You might want to save
this email aside for "historical" reference. The images above are probably
not going to be found even by a Google search (though... I have not
tested this).
