Brule/Sicangu
Sioux, was born in the mid-1820's and came into prominence in 1843 during a
raid by the Brules on the Pawnees.
In 1856, he was appointed sub-chief of the Brules under Little Thunder at Fort Pierre. During the Powder River War, 1866-68, he became chief of the Brule's Orphan Band. Along with Spotted Tail, he signed the Treaty of 1868. He lived the rest of his life on the Rosebud Reservation in the Cut Meat District.
Iron Shell died in the mid-1870's and is buried near St. Francis, South Dakota.
